Active ageing in the times of covid. Experiences of the organizers of free time activities
Mejtská, Petra ; Hasmanová Marhánková, Jaroslava (advisor) ; Hrešanová, Ema (referee)
The topic of this thesis is the experiences of employees and volunteers working in centres and clubs for the elderly people that organize leisure activities for their clients. These organisations fulfil the idea of active ageing, which they define as healthy and correct way of ageing. Activity, participation and social contact are important aspects of this concept, which should lead to an improved quality of life in old age, physical and mental health and other benefits. However, during the spring of 2020, all activities of the centres (and other institutions) were interrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic. Elderly people were advised to stay home and isolate themselves. This, however, brought additional risks for them. Loneliness in old age is a debated topic that was accentuated during the pandemic. This thesis uses qualitative methods, and my communication partners are volunteers, lecturers and managers of the senior centres and clubs who worked there throughout the pandemic and beyond. Using in-depth qualitative, semi-open-ended interviews, this thesis is interested in how they coped with the sudden closure during the pandemic and what strategies they adopted to protect their clients. The text seeks to approach their decision-making on the edge of two risks - loneliness and the possibility of...

It also estimates which activities and tools are preferred the most in their everyday life. Through the qualitative research, the methods used to converse with the disabled seniors and their care assistants in the Retirement Home Palata, this thesis brings several categories concerning the special educational needs that influence the quality of life of the elderly. Active old age and depression
Šťastná, Eva ; Bártová, Jiřina (advisor)
In my work I deal about problems connected with active old age and the depression in the old age. I tried to prove the relation between the incidence of depressions and the following factors: hobbies and activities, religious faith, education and loneliness. The research was carried out by filling in a questionnaire by three different groups of seniors. The target group in general was established by persons in the age category of 60-90 years of age. The three specific sub-groups as mentioned above consist of a/ persons living in retirement homes, b/ members of the club of seniors, c/ accidentally chosen seniors, visiting offices of a general practitioner and of a private gynaecologist in the town of Česká Kamenice. The results of my research, as far as the whole of the target group is concerned, proved the association between the incidence of depressive symptoms and the three chosen factors: hobbies and activities, education, and loneliness. Most evident of all was the association between being lonely and the incidence of depression, then between the achieved level of education and the incidence of depression. Less expressed was the relation between depression and practised hobbies. The religious faith proved to be a factor without any influence on the incidence of the depression. Regarding the fact, that...

Chmelíková, Tereza ; Kotrusová, Miriam (advisor) ; Potůček, Martin (referee)
The diploma thesis deals with the phenomenon of the digital divide and its influence on the quality of life of seniors. The digital divide - a product of the modern information society - is one of the major factors influencing the social exclusion of elderly people. The theoretical part of theses introduces the concept of active aging as a way of successful solving problems associated with the population ageing, as well as a prevention of the exclusion of seniors from both society and participation in public affairs. The author mainly focuses on the issue of how are seniors in the Czech Republic at risk of exclusion as a result of digital exclusion. In the practical part, the present level of digital literacy of Czech seniors is explored. Following qualitative research - semi-structured interviews with experts - aims to find out whether the digital divide represents a social problem for the elderly people in the Czech Republic that contributes to their inequal position among the society, or even causes their exclusion from the participation in governance, and consequently, reduces the quality of their lives.
Current life of "superwomen" after primary family breakup
Hanáková, Šárka ; Kobová, Ĺubica (advisor) ; Hasmanová Marhánková, Jaroslava (referee)
This thesis is dedicated to women who were called "the super women" during the communist era. Their mission was to combine their profession with taking care of their children alongside of being a housewife. Even though the traditional model of the men supporting the whole family changed to more democratic model with the both man and woman supporting the family, the housekeeping and taking care of children still stayed the wive's responsibility. In the period of communism, women were "double burdened". They dedicated their lives for their families and the free time they had, which was less then what men had, mostly corresponded with the interests of children and the whole family. In this thesis I focus on how these women live nowadays. They have already retired and after losing their partner they now live alone. I also focus on how they deal with this different life situation and changes in their social roles. I work with the theoretical approaches of emancipated femininity and active aging as a way to cope with changes in social status. I chose the qualitative approach as a research method. It is implemented in this diploma thesis by analyzing thorough interviews with widowed seniors.

Retirement homes provide a versatile facilities and services to their clients not only to secure the basic needs of seniors but also to offer an opportunity to satisfy their secondary needs for instance by participating on social events. Such involvement of seniors is beneficial for themselves and also for the whole society too. Theoretical part of my dissertation is focused on definition of the term participation, afterwards this term is put in relation to lives of seniors and their functioning in retirement homes. Next it also deals with recognizing the level of participation in an institution and what factors affect this level. Attention is directed on clients themselves during this process, how do they perceive participation, what barriers they see and on the other hand what opportunities motivate them to participate in social events. The main part of my work is dedicated to empirical research in the organization "Domov pro seniory Slunečnice" (Retirement Home Sunflower) where above mentioned topics are analy zed.

Activization of seniors in social care facilities
Javoříková, Veronika ; Ondrušová, Jiřina (advisor) ; Cimrmannová, Tereza (referee)
I focused on the topic of activation of seniors in social care facilities in my diploma thesis. The aim of the diploma thesis was to describe possibilities regarding the activation of seniors in social care facilities and to find out how much the activation services in selected types of social care facilities differ. I conducted a research survey through interviews with social and activation workers from four types of social care facilities: homes for the elderly, special regimes homes, hospice care and social beds in long-term hospitals. The questions for the interviews were semi-structured and aimed at finding out the possibilities and differences in the activation of seniors in these facilities. All social care facilities are legally obliged to activate their clients. However, on the basis of this research, I have come to the conclusion that not all facilities follow this requirement. Some entities activate their clients very little, and for this reason, these people are suffering and their life feels meaningless. On the other side, in facilities where activation is provided, seniors are more satisfied, feel they have a meaningful life, and they enjoy their life. As a result of the research, I found that the differences in activation of seniors in social care facilities are really significant.
